What are Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s sage’s wills?

Sage’s wills are a collectable item in-game. The description says that they’re “remnants of a former sage’s resolve.” Apparently, if you gather enough and offer four of them to a goddess statue, you can “deepen your connection with the sages.”

Now, this “deeper connection” isn’t some sort of in-game dating sim – it has a mechanical effect. Given that after each of the main dungeons – where you explore and battle with one of the sages – you receive a vow (the special power the character gives you), the two are naturally connected.

What are Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s sage’s wills used for?

Offering four sage’s wills to a goddess statue will improve one of the abilities which you gain after completing a dungeon. For example, after the wind temple, you get Tulin’s vow, which gives you his archery skills in the form of a ghostly companion as well as a special gust of wind ability to help you fly farther. Giving four sage’s wills to a godess statue increase Tulin’s fighting prowess.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sage's wills - a little bird boy with white feathers, colourful eyes, and a bow and arrow on his back. He is a cartoony humanoid bird.

How do I find more sage’s wills in Tears of the Kingdom?

Sage’s wills appear to be invariably present on sky islands. The best way to find more is to explore these, though you have to be sure to look everywhere. For example, a rotating sphere in the sky with a whole in it may appear to only have a shrine within, but if you get below the platform the shrine is sat on, you’ll likely find a sage’s will (this has happened twice to us, at least!). Just keep your eyes open for well-hidden chests.
