The Pokémon Company shares ‘1,008 Encounters’ presentation

A presentation called ‘Pokémon: 1,008 encounters’ has given us a nifty retrospective as The Pokémon Company celebrates over one thousand Pokémon

If you weren’t on Twitter today, you might not have noticed the Pokémon 1,008 encounters presentation celebrating Game Freak’s series breaking quadruple digits with the latest lashing of monsters from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Just a warning, if you’re one of many who takes a hit right in the feels from a solid blast of nostalgia, prepare for some serious emotions.

While not showcasing anything about the future of the series, much to the disappointment of many online speculators, the Pokémon 1,008 encounters presentation details every ‘mon from Bulbasaur right through to Gholdengo, with all generations in between accounted for. I personally don’t think an evolution counts as an encounter, but I’m not going to argue with The Pokémon Company on this one.

It’s hard to believe that in the nearly 30 years of the Pokémon franchise, there are now over 1,000 of the cuddly creatures to find, catch, and battle with. While that number is now too big to fit in a single game (which is fair enough, really), it still means there’s a huge library of monsters that fans look forward to seeing with each new entry. Hopefully, if we ever get Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, a few of the classic cast can make a return, much like the additions made to Sword and Shield after release.
